ED:SUCCESS Independent Special School (SEMH)

Specialist Independent Education for Pupils with SEMH and SEND

ED:SUCCESS Independent Special School provides specialist education for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated SEND, whose needs cannot currently be met within mainstream education.

We are seeking registration as an independent special school placement, delivering a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils can regulate, re-engage with learning and make sustained progress.

Our work is underpinned by the ED:SUCCESS approach:
consistent routines, calm relationships, clear boundaries and high expectations, delivered through trauma-informed practice.

Our School Provision

ED:SUCCESS operates as a registered independent special school for pupils requiring a longer-term, specialist educational placement.

The school provides:

• Small, carefully structured learning groups

• A stage-not-age curriculum model, responsive to individual readiness

• Core academic subjects, including English and Mathematics, and Science where appropriate

• Personal Development, PSHE, SMSC and enrichment

• Regulation-focused and therapeutic approaches embedded into daily practice

Provision is personalised, informed by professional advice and EHCP outcomes where applicable.

A Calm, Predictable Learning Environment

We recognise that many pupils attending ED:SUCCESS have experienced disrupted education, unmet needs or repeated school failure. Our environment is designed to be:

Regulation and emotional safety are prioritised, enabling pupils to re-engage with learning at a pace that is appropriate for them.

Curriculum and Learning

Learning at ED:SUCCESS is carefully sequenced and adapted to meet pupils where they are.

Our curriculum:

• Is broad, balanced and appropriate to pupils’ needs

• Focuses on progress from individual starting points

• Develops academic skills alongside emotional regulation, resilience and independence

• Prepares pupils for future pathways, transitions and reintegration where appropriate

Assessment focuses on progress over time, not comparison.

Behaviour, Regulation and Support

Behaviour at ED:SUCCESS is understood as communication.

We use:

• Clear routines and expectations

• Consistent adult responses

• De-escalation and regulation strategies

• Reflection and repair following incidents

Support is firm, fair and compassionate. Pupils are supported to take responsibility for their actions while being taught the skills they need to succeed.

Safeguarding and Welfare

Safeguarding is central to everything we do.

ED:SUCCESS has robust safeguarding arrangements in place, including:

• Trained Designated Safeguarding Leadership

• Clear reporting and escalation procedures

• A strong culture of vigilance and professional accountability

• Close working with external agencies where required

Pupil welfare, dignity and safety are always prioritised.
